In a game of inches...one key play...one key at bat, the Hawks played well, but not well enough as the lost their final game of the season by the final score of 2-1 to Marsteller. Gainesville had plenty of opportunities to blow the game open, but just could not get that one big hit that they so desperately needed. Jacob Christian pitched another fantastic game allowing just 2 unearned runs on 5 hits while striking out 6 and walking no one. Once again Christian also helped himself out, driving in Gainesville's loan run with a SAC fly. Austin Gerber played a solid game going 2-3 at the plate with a SB and run scored. Despite the loss, Gainesville should be proud of their achievements this season...setting the all time record for most wins in a season with 7 and showing substantial improvement from beginning to end. All three games the Hawks dropped this season were by 1 run which proved they could compete with anybody. Congratulations on a very nice season! | | | 5/26/2011 | R H E

The baseball team was able to improve their record to 7-2 on the season with a convincing 12-2 team victory over the visiting Parkside Panthers. The bats were on fire today, as the Hawks were able to pound out 15 hits on the afternoon, providing pitcher Jacob Christian with plenty of run support from the get go. Making his last middle school start at home, Christian was almost perfect, going 5 innings letting up just 1 earned run on 5 hits while striking out 6. Offensively he was perfect...4-4 with a double 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's including a walk off one hopper off the fence to seal the deal for Gainesville. Austin Gerber, Addison Walker and Sammie Feliciano also had multiple hit games, while Joey Davis went 1-1 with 3 RBI's, SAC fly, walk, SB and 2 runs scored sporting his new found #22 on the back of his jersey:-) Gainesville has one huge game remaining next Thursday at Marsteller at 4:45pm. If you have not had the chance to come see a game this year...you do not want to miss this one...come on out and show your support! | | | 5/24/2011 | R H E

Mother nature finally cooperated for the Hawks as they were able to travel to MP and defeat the Cougars by the final score of 14-3. The theme of the night was 6th graders...Tommy Logan took the bump for Gainesville and tossed 5 strong innings yielding just 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3. Logan also helped his own cause going 1-3 at the plate with 3 RBI's. However the offensive star of the game was CF Jacob Jansen going 2-4 with a walk, SB and 5 RBI's on the afternoon. Not a bad day between the two, racking up 8 out of the teams possible 14 RBI's! The Hawks have improved to 6-2 for the season and now have 2 huge games remaining against Marsteller and Parkside to finish out the season. Come on out to Marsteller today and show your support as Gainesville takes on the Bulldogs for the biggest game of the season at 4:45pm! GO HAWKS!!! | | | 5/16/2011 | R H E

Fresh off the biggest win of the season last time they played, Gainesville unfortunately could not match the intensity and focus need to show consistency. A lack of timely hitting and some base running blunders prevented the Hawks from having that big inning that they desperately needed to give their pitchers a little breathing room. Fortunately, they were able to do enough to escape the Sabres home field with a "W". Starting pitcher E'lan Goodwin pitched a solid 4 2/3 innings yielding 4 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4 before making way to Tommy Logan who came in with the tying run at the plate and two down to strike out Stonewall and end their scoring threat. Offensively Sammie Feliciano continued his hot streak, going 2-4 with a big RBI giving the Hawks a little wiggle room heading into the last inning. Come on out and support your Hawks in their last home game of the season this Wednesday at 5pm vs Parkside. | | | 5/12/2011 | R H E

Gainesville picked the right day to play their best game of the season, in their most important game of the season, vs the visiting Bull Run Eagles. Looking to avenge an opening day 3-2 loss, the Hawks were determined and focused to play their best baseball. Aside from a potential game ending botched run down, the Hawks were near perfect. Jacob Christian pitched 7 innings of 4 hit baseball, yielding just 2 unearned runs and striking out 7 whiling going 1-4 at the plate and driving in one. All in all Gainesville was able to pound out 12 hits on the afternoon, but the top of the order was on fire! E'lan Goodwin played his best game of his Gainesville career going 2-3 with a walk, stolen base, 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored...not to mention an ESPN high light reel catch in center field that had the crowd come to their feet! Austin Gerber followed up going 3-4 with a SB and RBI and proved just how much we missed him while out with injury. With all that said, the offensive hero of the day was clean up hitter Sam Yeich...and clean up he did! Same went 3-4 with a single (1 RBI), double (2 RBI's), and triple (3 RBI's), while driving in 6 runs on the afternoon. This was a huge team victory that should be proud of by all. Come on out to Stonewall on Monday to watch your Hawks take on the Sabres...1st pitch scheduled @ 5pm! Go Hawks!!!

In a very entertaining yet sloppy game from start to finish, our Hawks were able to claw their way to a hard fought victory. The game was much closer than the final score indicates as we were able jump out to a quick 4 run lead in the top of the first inning only to see our defense struggle to help out starting pitcher Élan Goodwin as he was roughed up for 6 runs, only 2 of which were earned. We hung in their afterwards, finally taking our first lead again at 8-7 in the top of the fourth...a lead that we would not relinquish.
The turning point of the game was turned in by relief pitcher Addison Walker who threw five solid innings and allowed only one run in the bottom of the seventh when the game was well in hand. Sam Yeich was on fire at the plate going 4-6 and Sam Feliciano stayed hot as well going 2-2 with 3 walks on the afternoon. The Hawks are now 3-2 on the season and looking forward to take on the visiting Bull Run Eagles this Thursday here at Gainesville for a 4:45pm start. Come on out and cheer on your Hawks!

Yesterday afternoon the Hawks were able to get back on the winning track by defeating the visiting MP Cougars by the final score of 13-3. Although it was not the crispest game played, there were several bright spots for the Hawks. Elan Goodwin pitched three solid innings striking out 6 and mixing his pitches up throughout. Tommy Logan came in relief and pitched a strong inning, striking out two and Ryan Sanders came in for his first time here at Gainesville to earn the "W" for the Hawks. Kyle Deering and Elan Goodwin each had 2 RBI's on the day and Joey Davis and Evan Bradshaw also had RBI base hits as well. With the win the Hawks move to 2-2 for the season and will travel to Parkside on Monday to take on the Panthers. Come on out and show your support! | | | 5/2/2011 | R H E

The Hawks lost a heart breaker yesterday afternoon to the visiting Marsteller Bull Dogs by the final score of 5-4. Jacob Christian pitched 6 solid innings for Gainesville, letting up just 2 runs on 7 hits while striking out 6. His day at the plate was just as solid as his pitching, going 2-3 with two doubles and 2 RBI'S. Sam Yeich also had a tremendous offensive game as well going 3-3 with two doubles, single, SB and 3 runs scored. Going into the 6th inning the score was knotted at two before Gainesville was able to put two more runs up on the board, taking a 4-2 lead into the 7th. However, it just was not Gainesville's day as Marsteller was able to rally and put up a three spot, defeating the Hawks by the final score of 5-4. Come on out to Gainesville on Thursday afternoon as the Hawks square off against Manassas Park for a 4:45pm start!

Gainesville finally played their long anticipated home opener on Friday and defeated the visiting Stonewall Sabres by the final score of 10-7. In what started out on a positive note for the Hawks taking a 10-1 lead, began to take a turn for the worse over the next three innings as poor pitching, sloppy defense and a lack of hitting let the Sabres climb right back into game. Jacob Christian (3 RBI's) and Sammie Feliciano both had multiple hit games for the Hawks who had 11 hits on the afternoon, while Joey Davis, Sam Yeich and Jacob Porter each contributed a key hit of their own . Come on out this afternoon and watch the Hawks take on the visiting Marsteller Bull Dogs here at the Hawks Nest at 4:45pm!

Hawks 2 4 3
Bull Run 3 7 2
The Hawks opened up their season on the road, traveling to Bull Run to take on the defending champion Eagles on a beautiful day for baseball. Despite the 3-2 loss there were plenty of bright spots to build on, including the pitching by Addison Walker (3 innings) Elan Goodwin (2 innings) and Jacob Christian (1 inning). Combined, the three pitchers held BR to just 7 hits, zero earned runs and walked only 2 batters on the afternoon. 6th grader Tommy Logan was 2-3 at the plate and Jacob Christian drove in this years first RBI with a base hit to left in the 4th inning. A couple of key errors defensively and untimely strikeouts offensively were just enough to make the difference in the game. Even though the Hawks were down 3-0, they were able to battle back and make it 3-2 before Bull Run was able get out of a basses loaded 1 out jam, which ultimately secured their victory.
Come on out on Thursday as the Hawks play host in their HOME opener against Parkside at 4:45pm! | |
